Mercy's Rumored Rework - This Week In Overwatch 11/21/20

Mercy Rework Rumored for Overwatch 2

Our favorite guardian angel may have a bit more of a learning curve by the time Overwatch 2 is released. It has recently been rumored that Dr. Ziegler will be losing one of the most powerful moves in her kit or, as others may argue, the entire game.

Mercy has been one of the most iconic characters in all of Overwatch. Since release, Mercy has seen many reworks to her ability kit, with the primary focus seemingly always falling on her Resurrection. It seems that this trend may be continuing into Overwatch 2 as well.

Overwatch streamer and Twitter user EeveeA recently revealed that a change she recommended to the dev team is potentially gaining some traction as Overwatch 2 approached. According to EeveeA, the proposed change would result in Resurrection being swapped with an ability called “Angelic Blessing”. In essence, Angelic Blessing would be casted by Mercy onto a teammate who would then be granted Mercy’s Guardian Angel ability, allowing the affected teammate to take flight to whichever teammate they lock onto.

This alleged change has been met with mixed reviews, with the majority rooting for a change to Resurrection, but also claiming that this change may not be the best direction, weakening Mercy greatly. It’s important to remember that this change is likely not set in stone, and only part of the dev team’s creative brainstorm ahead of release, but something to keep an eye on nonetheless.
