Overwatch League Start Date Revealed

Friends, the wait is over.

After what felt like an eternity, the fifth season of the Overwatch League is fittingly set to resume action on May 5th, 2022. With fans and teams alike clamoring for an opportunity to engage in Overwatch of the highest caliber, this announcement comes welcome relief.

This season will be played on an early version of Overwatch 2 — so while fans and players will finally be able to experience OW2 gameplay, there will still be much more to discover at the time of launch. Besides the shock of adjusting to an entirely different game, one of the largest pills to swallow will be the 5v5 format, down from the traditional 6v6 that the community grew so accustomed to.

This change, like many others, will eventually be just another blip in the long history of competitive Overwatch — but it will certainly be a factor worth keeping an eye on, as teams adjust to the new format and potential shake-ups occur during the learning process.

The Washington Justice will open their season against the Toronto Defiant and the Dallas Fuel on opening weekend, with the Los Angeles Gladiators and New York Excelsior bringing in the start of the new season on 5/5.
