Overwatch Creator Cup & A New Off-Tank: This Week In Overwatch - 12/10/21

Goodbye Fury, Hello Kalios

It is with a heavy heart that this week we announced the decision to let Fury leave the team, in order to continue his professional Overwatch career closer to home, playing out of his native Korea for the first time since he joined the league.

Still, I’d be lying if I said we weren’t excited about who we brought in as a replacement. Off-Tank Kalios, who joined NYXL midway through the 2021 season, is an extremely flexible and smart player who we expect to adjust well to the changing tank role in Overwatch 2.

“He has taken what he learned from previous seasons while remaining flexible for the changes coming with OW2,” General Manager PRE said. This has been a long time coming, and we're so happy to have him.”

OW Creator Cup Announced

Back in November, the Overwatch team unveiled their newest community engagement event unto the world. This event has enabled prominent Overwatch content creators to contribute to an experimental card, gather a team, and compete on-stream for what will certainly be some high-octane shenanigans.

With the experimental card going live on November 30th, players were treated to a plethora of new and zany changes that were implemented by the players competing in the Creator Cup. A content creator was chosen for each role: Violet representing support, Flats for the tank changes, and Somjuu for DPS.

The new changes were chaotic, to say the least. But this was what the Overwatch team was anticipating and encouraging going into this card. This flexibility gifted the dev team more creative freedom, and to also test out changes they may not have been able make live otherwise. And with $5,000 on the line for a first place finish in NA, and $4,500 in EMEA and NZ, although whacky, players will certainly have something to keep their eyes fixed on.

Be sure to tune in to the streams being hosted by each participant! Gameplay starts on December 10th and will continue through December 12th.
